FADU embeds file system inside SSD flash to bypass host CPUs
Original: FADU puts the filesystem inside the SSD's flash to bypass host CPUs FADU’s FS-SSD carries NFSv3 file operations inside N
Korean SSD startup FADU has introduced FS-SSD, a drive that runs NFSv3 file operations inside NVMe commands, placing the file system directly on the flash itself. This lets GPUs, DPUs and NICs read files directly without a host file system or host CPU involvement. The design targets AI and data-center workloads, where reducing CPU overhead and latency for storage access is a growing priority.
Why now: AI data centers are looking for ways to cut CPU bottlenecks in storage access, making this a notable architectural shift.
