EA shuts down BioWare as SaveMassEffect campaign surges

Original: mass effect

Electronic Arts announced it is shutting down BioWare and cutting around 400 jobs, about 3% of its workforce, as part of a studios restructuring that will see Respawn and DICE collaborate on Star Wars: Battlefront 3. Fans launched a SaveMassEffect GoFundMe campaign that hit its goal in under 20 minutes, with supporters saying the Mass Effect series deserves to be preserved rather than left to die in an EA vault.

Why now: News of BioWare's closure sparked an immediate, fast-funded fan campaign to save the Mass Effect franchise.
