Sindoor Khela marks emotional farewell to Goddess Durga

Original: সিঁদুর খেলা

Married women across West Bengal are taking part in Sindoor Khela, smearing vermilion on each other as part of the traditional farewell to Goddess Durga on Vijaya Dashami. Sangbad Pratidin reports that the rhythms of the dhak accompany the send-off, with sorrowful tunes marking Uma's journey back to Kailash, as the Durga Puja festivities draw to a close across the state.

Why now: It is Vijaya Dashami, when the Sindoor Khela ritual and Durga idol immersions are taking place across Bengal.
