Global Encryption Day 2026 Frames Encryption as Rights Support

Original: Global Encryption Day 2026: Not just a tool but rights-respecting support for local resistance

The Association for Progressive Communications marked Global Encryption Day 2026 by arguing that encryption should be seen not merely as a technical tool but as rights-respecting support for local resistance movements. The organisation's message positions strong encryption as essential infrastructure for activists and communities defending human rights, prompting renewed discussion among digital rights advocates about the role of secure communications.

Why now: Human rights and digital rights advocates are highlighting encryption's protective role for activists as part of the annual Global Encryption Day observance.
