Ilya Safonov discusses AHL hockey after tough start

Original: илья сафонов

Russian forward Ilya Safonov, playing for Vancouver's AHL affiliate, has gone scoreless in his first six North American games, recording three assists and five shots on goal. He described the league's physicality bluntly, saying opponents tried to bury him in his very first shift and calling defender Middleton a fearsome hit man who kicked him while he was still on the ice.

Why now: Fans are tracking how the new Russian signing adapts to the rougher, more physical style of North American minor-league hockey.
