A Japanese birdwatcher has reported the arrival of tufted ducks (hoshihajiro), marking the return of these wintering waterfowl in a new blog post on wildlife watching. The post, shared with the nature and birdwatching communities online, notes the seasonal migration milestone as duck species return to Japan's lakes and rivers for the winter season.
Why now: The seasonal arrival of wintering ducks is a notable moment for Japan's birdwatching community each autumn.
