Ghana president welcomes all partners in fight against terrorism
Original: Ghana President: Anybody Committed to Fight Terrorism Is Welcome in West Africa
Ghana's president said anyone committed to fighting terrorism is welcome in West Africa, as the region grapples with a spreading jihadist insurgency. Speaking after a spate of attacks in the Sahel that have pushed violence toward coastal states including Ghana, he signalled openness to international partners regardless of origin. The remarks come amid debate over foreign involvement, following coups in Mali and Burkina Faso that expelled French forces and turned toward Russia.
Why now: Terrorism is spreading from the Sahel toward West Africa's coastal states, prompting debate over foreign security partners.
