Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva and Jair Bolsonaro are each pursuing efforts to disqualify the other ahead of Brazil's presidential runoff. The mutual legal challenges, which reportedly involve WhatsApp and parent company Meta in related legal disputes, have intensified an already bitter race, with supporters on both sides accusing their rival of undermining the election.

Why now: Brazil's runoff election is imminent and the mutual disqualification bids are the latest escalation in a fiercely contested race.
