Japanese baseball coverage says Shohei Ohtani's batting slump in the National League Championship Series stemmed from opposing pitchers finding a weakness in his game. American media is cited as suggesting that what the Dodgers' opponents managed to accomplish against him revealed a vulnerability. Fans in Japan and the US are debating the cause of his underperformance during the series and what it means for the Dodgers going forward.
Why now: Ohtani is baseball's biggest star, so any slump during the Dodgers' postseason run draws heavy scrutiny and speculation about how pitchers neutralised him.
