Firefighters train with real fire in disused Sablé-sur-Sarthe building

Original: sablé-sur-sarthe

Fifty firefighters took part in a training exercise in Sablé-sur-Sarthe, in the Sarthe department of France, in which a real fire was set in a disused building. Organised with local media coverage, the exercise allowed trainees to confront genuine flames and smoke in realistic conditions rather than simulated ones, ahead of their qualification. Local outlet Actu.fr reported the drill, drawing attention to how rarely live-fire training on this scale is possible.

Why now: Live-fire training exercises are unusual and visually striking, drawing local interest.
