Does cricket need its own Ballon d'Or?
Original: Golden bat or ball: does cricket need an equivalent to the Ballon d’Or? | Taha Hashim
The Guardian's Taha Hashim asks whether cricket should introduce an equivalent to football's Ballon d'Or, a single prestigious annual award for the world's best player. Cricket currently honours top performers through the ICC Awards, but debate centres on whether the sport lacks one glamorous, globally recognised prize that could raise its profile and celebrate individual excellence the way football's golden ball does.
Why now: Debate over how cricket recognises its best players, prompted by comparison with football's Ballon d'Or.
