The BBC plans to shut down BBC Three's linear broadcast channel as part of cost-saving measures, according to a Variety report. The move would mean the youth-focused service continues only online via BBC iPlayer. The proposal is part of the broadcaster's wider effort to find savings, though further details on timing and other affected services were not given.
Why now: Reports of the BBC closing linear channels as it cuts costs are of broad interest to UK audiences and the media industry.
