Trump deportation crackdown may sway Catholic voters in midterms
Original: Trump's deportation crackdown may influence how Catholics vote in midterms
President Trump's aggressive deportation policies are shaping up as a factor in how American Catholics vote in the upcoming midterm elections. Catholic opinion on immigration is divided between church leaders who have criticised mass deportations on humanitarian grounds and lay voters who back tougher enforcement. How that tension plays out at the ballot box could matter in closely contested districts with large Catholic populations.
Why now: Immigration is emerging as a key faith-and-politics issue ahead of the midterm elections.
