The Shepherding Gap: Nobody Drifts Overnight
Church Executive is highlighting what it calls the 'shepherding gap', arguing that people rarely leave the faith suddenly but drift away gradually when pastoral care and personal connection are missing. The piece urges church leaders to invest in consistent, long-term spiritual guidance rather than waiting for crises, framing disengagement as a slow process that attentive leadership can prevent.
Why now: Church leadership publications and congregations are debating why members quietly disengage and how better pastoral care could counter the trend.
