Voyager 1 to reach one light-day from Earth within a month
Original: Voyager 1 is 25.82 billion km/16.05 billion miles away from Earth and will reach 1 light-day from Earth in 29 days, 18 h
NASA's Voyager 1, now 25.82 billion kilometres (16.05 billion miles) from Earth, is set to become the first human-made object to be a full light-day away — one whole day of light-travel time — in about 30 days. Its twin, Voyager 2, trails at 21.61 billion kilometres (13.43 billion miles). Space watchers are marking the milestone as a symbolic moment for the 1977-launched probe, which continues transmitting from interstellar space.
Why now: Voyager 1 is approaching the unprecedented milestone of being one full light-day from Earth, prompting people to track the countdown.
