Russian Military Satellite Approaches U.S.-Registered Radar Craft in Orbit
A Russian military satellite has maneuvered close to a U.S.-registered spacecraft carrying radar equipment in orbit, drawing attention to growing on-orbit activity between the two powers. Space watchers are closely tracking the approach, with observers debating whether the encounter signals inspection, surveillance, or routine proximity operations. The incident adds to ongoing concerns about the militarization of space and the lack of agreed norms for close approaches between satellites of rival states.
Why now: Rising tensions over military activity in space make any close satellite encounter between Russia and the United States noteworthy.
