ESA's Hera Probe to Inspect Asteroid Struck by NASA's DART
Original: ESA's Hera Will View Asteroid Scars from DART's Strike
The European Space Agency's Hera mission is set to rendezvous with the asteroid Dimorphos, which was deliberately hit by NASA's DART spacecraft in 2022 in humanity's first planetary defense test. Hera will survey the impact crater left by the collision and measure how the strike altered the asteroid's orbit and structure, completing the scientific follow-up to the experiment.
Why now: Interest is renewed as Hera approaches the asteroid it will study following the DART impact.
