Amelia Earhart 'wreckage' likely just trees, researchers say
Original: Possible wreckage of Amelia Earhart's plane likely to be trees, say researchers
Researchers say an object previously identified as possible wreckage of Amelia Earhart's lost aircraft is more likely to be trees or vegetation. Earhart vanished over the Pacific in 1937 during her attempt to fly around the world, and the mystery of her disappearance remains one of aviation's most enduring unsolved cases. The finding cools hopes that a long-debated sonar image might finally have located her plane.
Why now: A new assessment has dampened excitement about a possible discovery in the long-running Earhart mystery.
