Criticism is circulating that Cambodia's ambassador to the United Nations misled the UN by claiming 20,000 people cannot return home because of Thailand, in connection with the Cambodia–Thailand border dispute. The claim is being pushed by critics of Phnom Penh, who say the figures and framing are false, though the evidence behind the accusation is not stated.
Why now: Ongoing tension between Cambodia and Thailand, with both sides accusing each other of propaganda at the UN.
