Burnham urged to hold inquiry into unequal air pollution impacts
Original: Burnham urged to launch inquiry into unequal health impacts of air pollution By Pippa Neill Environment reporter Letter
More than 150 scientists, MPs and activists have signed a letter calling on Greater Manchester Mayor Andy Burnham to launch an inquiry into the unequal health impacts of air pollution. The signatories say lower-income and minority-ethnic communities bear a disproportionate burden from polluted air and are demanding action to protect the most exposed groups across the region.
Why now: A large coalition of scientists and politicians has just publicly pressed a high-profile mayor to act on health inequality linked to air pollution.
