Don't take life too seriously: a Day of the Dead reflection
Original: No tomes muy en serio la vida, porque no saldremos de ella con vida. / Don't take life too seriously, because we won't g
A Spanish-language saying — "Don't take life too seriously, because we won't get out of it alive" — is circulating alongside Day of the Dead photography featuring Aztec dance. The aphorism, often attributed to the Mexican poet Sor Juana Inés de la Cruz, captures the spirit of the holiday, when people in Mexico honor deceased loved ones with humor, color and celebration of mortality rather than fear of it.
Why now: Day of the Dead celebrations are prompting people to share reflections on mortality and life's impermanence.
