Russian Military Satellite Shadows U.S.-Registered ICEYE Craft in Orbit
A Russian military satellite has been tracking a U.S.-registered satellite operated by Finnish radar-imaging company ICEYE in orbit, matching its movements in what space analysts describe as shadowing behaviour. Such close approaches are viewed as potentially aggressive manoeuvres, raising concerns about the safety of commercial spacecraft and the growing militarisation of low Earth orbit amid tensions between Moscow and Washington.
Why now: Near-collisions and deliberate shadowing of commercial satellites heighten fears of conflict extending into space.
