Chinese developers have started producing the Neo1, a 4-meter-tall robot weighing 1.2 tons that can carry more than 500 kg. According to its creators, it is designed for underwater work, mining operations and emergency response. The robot has not yet been demonstrated in action, so observers are treating the announcement with caution.
Why now: The bold claims about a massive humanoid-scale robot, unverified by any public demonstration, are drawing attention and skepticism.
