United States calls for abolishing UN Fourth Committee
Original: URGENT: The United States demands the final abolition of the Fourth Committee at the United Nations
The United States has reportedly demanded the permanent abolition of the Fourth Committee of the United Nations General Assembly, the body that handles decolonization and related political matters. The claim, circulating in Arabic-language commentary, has drawn attention to tensions between Washington and the UN over the committee's work and future role.
Why now: Claims of a major US push to dismantle a standing UN committee would mark a significant escalation in Washington's stance toward the organization, drawing wide attention.
