Germany aims to finalize migrant 'return hubs' by year end
Original: Germany, partners aim to finalize 'return hubs' by year end
Germany and partner countries plan to finalize arrangements for so-called 'return hubs' — facilities in third countries for rejected asylum seekers awaiting deportation — by the end of the year. The proposal is part of a broader effort by the German government to speed up deportations and tighten migration policy, though details of which countries would host the hubs remain unclear.
Why now: Migration policy is a contested topic in Germany and Europe, and new government plans on deportation draw wide attention.
