Telangana Chief Minister urges farmers to save drinking water amid El Niño

Original: El Niño: Chief Minister 'prays' to farmers to save drinking water

Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy has appealed to farmers in the Indian state to sacrifice a crop season and conserve water for drinking supplies as a strengthening El Niño raises fears of drought. The appeal highlights growing water stress in southern India, with officials asking agriculturists to prioritise household consumption over irrigation during the anticipated dry spell.

Why now: A looming super El Niño is prompting Indian state leaders to make unusual public appeals to avert drinking water shortages.
