The World Health Organization is scaling up Ebola preparedness efforts across 22 countries spanning Africa, Asia and Europe. The move comes amid ongoing conflict and displacement affecting millions of people in affected regions, raising concerns that weak health systems and population movement could allow outbreaks to spread. Health officials are working to strengthen surveillance, rapid response teams and laboratory capacity to detect and contain any cases early.
Why now: Conflict and displacement are raising fears of Ebola spreading beyond its usual areas, prompting the WHO's expanded readiness drive.
