The UN Security Council is meeting on Sudan as the civil war escalates beyond its previous fronts. Drone strikes are killing civilians from El Obeid to the Blue Nile, while famine risk spreads across Darfur and Kordofan. Sudan is already the world's largest hunger and displacement crisis, and speakers are expected to press for humanitarian access and de-escalation as fighting intensifies.
Why now: Drone strikes on civilians and spreading famine have prompted an emergency Security Council session drawing global attention to Sudan's worsening war.
