UN warns world losing ground in war on nature
Original: World losing ground in ‘war on nature’ as progress on biodiversity targets lags Fewer than half of the national targets
The United Nations says fewer than half of the national biodiversity targets set to protect the world's plants, animals and ecosystems are on track, warning that the world is losing ground in the 'war on nature'. The warning comes in a new UN report published days before countries gather in Yerevan, Armenia, to review global progress on halting and reversing the decline of nature.
Why now: The report lands days before an international biodiversity meeting in Yerevan, putting pressure on governments ahead of the talks.
