Hegseth church allies backed public execution plan for Fort Hood shooter
Original: Hegseth church allies backed plan for 'public' execution of Fort Hood shooter
Allies of US Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth within his church movement supported a proposal to carry out the execution of the Fort Hood shooter as a public, televised event, the Guardian reports. The plan has drawn attention because of Hegseth's close ties to the church network and questions over the separation of church and state in US punishment policy.
Why now: The reported involvement of Hegseth's religious circle in a state execution plan is striking, raising church-state concerns about a serving defence secretary.
