Original: Mel Martinez crosses party lines to endorse Bale Dalton for Congress

Former U.S. Senator Mel Martinez, a Republican, has crossed party lines to endorse Bale Dalton's congressional campaign in Florida. The endorsement from a prominent figure in state Republican politics is drawing attention as a notable break from party loyalty, and could lend Dalton crossover appeal with moderate voters ahead of the election.

Why now: A former Republican senator backing a candidate from the opposing party is an unusual, newsworthy political break.
