Trump calls border secure while Abbott keeps emergency in place
Original: Trump says the border is secure. Texas Gov. Greg Abbott keeps declaring an emergency.
President Trump says the US-Mexico border is secure, but Texas Governor Greg Abbott continues to issue emergency declarations along the border, maintaining state-level enforcement measures. The split highlights ongoing tension between federal claims of success on immigration and Texas's insistence that the situation remains a crisis requiring extraordinary state action.
Why now: Contradiction between the White House's border security narrative and Texas's continued emergency posture keeps the immigration debate in the spotlight.
