Gardeners urged to leave fall foliage messy this autumn
Original: Be a lazy gardener this fall and leave the messy foliage and plants alone: Here’s why
Garden writers are encouraging people to skip the usual fall cleanup and leave dead plants, leaves and foliage standing in their gardens through the winter. The advice is that the messy growth provides shelter and food for insects, birds and other wildlife, and helps soil health, making it better for both the garden and the gardener.
Why now: It is fall garden cleanup season, and the counterintuitive advice to do less work resonates with gardeners.
