Tons of dead fish have been discovered in a river that is drying up in Albania, an image being shared amid warnings of drought and the climate crisis. Commenters link the die-off to fossil fuel-driven global warming, El Niño and water scarcity, and warn of consequences for food supplies and rising costs in Europe. Many say the scene should serve as a warning not to look away.
Why now: The mass fish die-off in a drying river is a striking, visible symbol of drought and climate change currently affecting southern Europe.
