Eisenkot vows to end Hamas rule in Gaza within 18 months

Original: 17 years after Netanyahu's pledge, Eisenkot vows to end Hamas rule in Gaza within 18 months

Israeli National Unity party member Gadi Eisenkot has pledged to end Hamas rule in the Gaza Strip within 18 months. The remark drew attention because Benjamin Netanyahu made a similar-sounding pledge 17 years ago that went unfulfilled, prompting criticism that politicians keep making promises about Gaza that they fail to deliver.

Why now: Eisenkot's pledge echoes Netanyahu's unfulfilled 2008 vow, drawing scrutiny of repeated promises to topple Hamas.
