Air defense alerts have been declared in the Samara, Ulyanovsk, Kirov and Orenburg regions of Russia, with reports that several high-speed drones or missiles are flying deep into Russian territory. The alerts cover a wide swath of the Volga and Ural areas, far from the frontline, indicating the reach of long-range Ukrainian strikes or drone attacks is extending eastward.
Why now: Deep strikes into central and eastern Russia are rare and signal an escalation of the drone and missile war far beyond the border regions.
