Shakhtar Donetsk bring Champions League football to Stamford Bridge

War-displaced Shakhtar Donetsk are playing their Champions League home matches at Chelsea's Stamford Bridge in London, continuing a makeshift exile that began after Russia's invasion of Ukraine. Players and staff say the club's aim goes beyond results: bringing joy to Ukrainian children living under attack. The story has resonated widely as a striking example of how the war has uprooted one of Ukraine's biggest football clubs.
Why now: The club's unusual arrangement of hosting elite European football in London because of the ongoing war in Ukraine is drawing fresh attention during the Champions League campaign.
