Americans' Social Activity Has Steeply Declined Over 30 Years
Original: Americans' Social Activity Has Steeply Declined in the Past 30 Years Article URL: https://www. dataforprogress.org/blog/
New analysis from Data for Progress finds that Americans' social activity has fallen sharply over the past three decades, with people spending markedly less time engaging in face-to-face gatherings and community life. The findings have prompted discussion about possible drivers, including technology use, changing work patterns and the lingering effects of the pandemic, and what the decline means for social trust and public health.
Why now: The trend resonates with widespread concern about loneliness and the erosion of community life in the United States.
