Romanian authorities are investigating a suspected Russian drone strike on a tanker off its Black Sea coast. The incident is being treated as the latest spillover from the war in Ukraine, following earlier attacks that have reached or approached Romanian and NATO territory. Attention is focused on whether debris or the strike itself crossed into Romanian waters, a step that would further raise tensions between Moscow and the NATO alliance.
Why now: A possible Russian attack near NATO member Romania's coast raises fears of the Ukraine war directly spilling into alliance territory.
