AirTags reveal donated goods dumped at Victoria landfill

Original: "[W]e placed Apple AirTags in new donations." "De Facto tracked the journey of their new possessions to the garbage dump

Journalists at De Facto hid Apple AirTags inside donated items to trace where they ended up. The trackers showed many goods reached the garbage dump within days, contradicting the City of Victoria's insistence that donations are not thrown away. The investigation raises questions about how charities and the city handle second-hand donations and what donors are actually told about their goods' fate.

Why now: The findings directly contradict official denials from the City of Victoria, prompting debate about donation practices and transparency.
