Commenter accuses Britons of double standard toward immigrant-owned shops

Original: British people will walk past a Starbucks, Burger King, Costa Coffee, Taco Bell, Blank Street and not even notice. Then

A widely shared comment argues that British shoppers ignore big chains like Starbucks, Burger King, Costa Coffee, Taco Bell and Blank Street, yet complain the UK is being 'taken over by foreigners' when they encounter an independent shop such as Al-Badr Supermarket. The remark has drawn strong engagement, with people debating hypocrisy, immigration rhetoric and the place of small immigrant-run businesses on British high streets.

Why now: Immigration remains a heated UK debate, and the post's framing of hypocrisy toward foreign-owned shops struck a nerve.

• British people will walk past a Starbucks, Burger King, Costa Coffee, Taco Bell, Blank Street and not even notice. Then they'll see an independent shop called Al-Badr Supermarket and cry about how the UK is being taken over by foreigners. · anon_opin · 14K
