San Diego committee advances campaign finance and dark money reforms
Original: SD rules committee advances campaign finance, `Dark Money' reform packages
San Diego's rules committee has advanced packages of campaign finance reforms aimed at tightening disclosure rules and curbing 'dark money' spending in local elections. The measures would require greater transparency about who funds political advertising and independent expenditure committees. The packages now move forward in the legislative process, where they are expected to draw debate over donor disclosure and free-speech concerns.
Why now: Reform packages moving through committee signal potential changes to local election funding rules, drawing attention from voters and political groups.
