Tesso Nilo National Park in Sumatra, Indonesia, has lost 78% of its primary forest since 2009, driven largely by illegal palm oil plantations established inside its boundaries. Conservation campaigners say the deforestation threatens endangered species including tigers, orangutans and elephants, and are calling for boycotts of palm oil and stronger protection for one of Sumatra's most important lowland forest reserves.
Why now: Conservation groups are highlighting the park's severe deforestation to mobilise public pressure against illegal palm oil expansion.
