Sudan finance minister seeks climate finance amid drought warnings
Original: Sudan finance minister warns of drought risks, seeks climate finance in Bangkok
Sudan's finance minister has warned of serious drought risks facing the country and is seeking international climate finance to address them. The appeal was made during meetings in Bangkok, as Sudan looks to secure funding for climate adaptation despite ongoing conflict and economic crisis at home. The warning highlights how war-torn Sudan is increasingly exposed to climate shocks with few resources to respond.
Why now: Sudan's combination of war, economic collapse and looming drought makes its call for international climate funding timely and newsworthy.
