Award-winning Irish author Sally Rooney's books are being withdrawn from sale in the UK after she voiced support for Palestine Action, the direct-action group proscribed as a terrorist organisation by the British government. The withdrawal has reignited debate over the breadth of UK counter-terrorism laws and whether supporting a proscribed group should carry consequences for lawful expression, with free-speech advocates and critics of the proscription clashing online.
Why now: The withdrawal of a best-selling author's books over political speech has sparked a fresh row about UK anti-terror laws and free expression.
