Spanish NGO halts Mediterranean rescue operations over fuel costs

A Spanish non-governmental organisation says it can no longer afford to run search-and-rescue operations in the Mediterranean, blaming soaring fuel prices. The suspension means fewer rescue capacities at sea at a time when migrant crossings continue, and the announcement is drawing attention to the mounting costs and funding shortfalls facing humanitarian groups operating in the region.
Why now: The suspension of migrant rescues due to fuel costs highlights ongoing funding pressures on humanitarian groups amid continued Mediterranean crossings.
