Saxony-Anhalt parliament called on to demand Russia's victory

The state parliament of Saxony-Anhalt is at the centre of a political storm after a move to call for Russia's victory in the war against Ukraine. Reports say AfD and BSW representatives backed the demand, drawing sharp criticism, with commentators arguing that anyone voting for those parties is complicit in legitimising such positions. The affair is fuelling debate over how far pro-Russian rhetoric has entered German state politics.
Why now: A German state legislature being linked to a call for Russia's victory is an extraordinary political development amid the ongoing war in Ukraine.
