Peru appoints Álvaro Vargas Llosa as US ambassador

Original: como

Peru's government has officially confirmed the appointment of Álvaro Vargas Llosa as the country's ambassador to the United States. The move was published in the official newspaper El Peruano and formalises a diplomatic posting that carries weight given Peru's close economic and political ties with Washington. Reaction is focused on the choice of the writer and commentator, son of Nobel laureate Mario Vargas Llosa, for the senior diplomatic role.

Why now: The official announcement of a high-profile new Peruvian ambassador to the United States has just been published, drawing attention across Spanish-speaking countries.
