Shoki Oda, a highly touted high school pitcher from Yokohama, has effectively decided to challenge for Major League Baseball instead of joining Nippon Professional Baseball. Having finished meetings with NPB clubs, he is set to hold a press conference, an extremely unusual move for a top high school draft prospect.
Why now: A top Japanese high school draft prospect choosing the majors over NPB is exceptionally rare, drawing major attention ahead of the draft.
