Phillies name Don Mattingly their full-time manager
The Philadelphia Phillies have named Don Mattingly their full-time manager, according to a Yahoo Sports report. The move removes the interim tag and gives the former Yankees star and ex-Marlins and Dodgers skipper formal control of the club going forward. Reaction so far centers on whether Mattingly's veteran leadership can lift a Phillies team with championship expectations.
Why now: A storied franchise just appointed a high-profile former star player as its permanent manager, a notable offseason development.
